HabWorlds - Accessibility & Design Updates
We are currently in the process of updating HabWorlds to meet current accessibility standards while improving the overall student experience. This update includes a refreshed design, improved functionality across devices, and expanded accessibility support across simulations and course content.
Additional details will be shared as this work is finalized.
Course Availability
The updated version of HabWorlds is not yet available. We anticipate release in early May 2026, ahead of the summer semester.
As development progresses, this article will be updated with more specific timelines and implementation details.
If you have a student who needs access to updated, accessible versions of specific lessons between April 24 and the full course release, we can provide access on a case-by-case basis.

Overview of Updates
Modernized Design & Responsive Layout
All lessons will be updated with a cleaner, more modern design. In addition to visual improvements, content is now responsive, meaning it adapts to different screen sizes.
This will allow students to access lessons across:
-
Desktops and laptops (recommended)
-
Tablets
-
Mobile devices
While mobile and tablet access will be supported, we still recommend that students use a desktop or laptop for the best experience.
Browser recommendation: Chrome is recommended, though Edge, Firefox, and Safari are supported.
Accessibility Improvements
HabWorlds is a simulation-heavy course, and a major focus of this update is improving accessibility across those experiences.
Our approach includes:
-
Updating existing simulations to be accessible
-
Replacing some simulations with newly developed accessible versions
A majority of simulations will be fully accessible at launch.
Alternate Pathways for Simulations
For simulations that are not fully accessible by release, we are implementing alternate pathways.
These pathways will:
-
Provide a fully accessible experience
-
Maintain equivalent rigor and learning outcomes
-
Ensure students engage with the same core concepts
The exact format of these pathways may vary depending on the simulation but will be designed to provide a comparable learning experience.
Alternate Assignments for Select Lessons
In a small number of lessons, the simulation is the central learning experience and cannot be fully updated in time for the summer release.
For these cases, we are developing alternate assignments.
These may include:
-
Fully accessible digital lessons within the platform
-
External assignments in other formats
These alternatives are designed to ensure that all students can successfully meet the learning objectives, even when the original simulation is not available.
We will share more details on these lessons and formats as development is finalized.
