BioBeyond - Accessibility & Design Updates

We’ve completed a comprehensive update to BioBeyond to meet current accessibility standards while improving the overall student experience. This update introduces a refreshed design, improved functionality across devices, and expanded accessibility support.

Course Availability

All new course sections created on or after April 13, 2026 will include the latest version of BioBeyond, featuring improved accessibility and updated design.

Important:

  • Existing active sections will remain unchanged to avoid disrupting student progress
  • Updated content is not automatically applied to courses already in progress

If you have a student who needs access to the updated, accessible versions of specific lessons, we can provide access on a case-by-case basis.

Overview of Updates

Modernized Design & Responsive Layout

All lessons have been updated with a cleaner, more modern design. In addition to visual improvements, content is now responsive, meaning it adapts to different screen sizes.

This allows students to access lessons across:

  • Desktops and laptops (recommended)

  • Tablets

  • Mobile devices

While mobile and tablet access is supported, we still recommend that students use a desktop or laptop for the best experience.

Browser recommendation: Chrome is recommended, though Edge, Firefox, and Safari are supported.

Accessibility Improvements

All lessons now meet key accessibility requirements. Updates include:

  • Full keyboard compatibility

  • Touch-friendly interactions

  • Support for screen readers

Many simulations and interactive elements have been updated to be accessible. In cases where full updates were not feasible, alternate solutions have been implemented.

Alternate Pathways for Complex Simulations

Some simulations (such as Into the Cell) were too complex to fully retrofit for accessibility within the project timeline.

For these cases, we have added alternate pathways that allow students to:

  • Watch a narrated video walkthrough of the simulation

  • Complete equivalent questions covering the same content

These pathways ensure that all students can access and demonstrate understanding of key concepts.
